Precarious Shelf, 2019

I’m reading Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing’s The Mushroom at the End of the World, which thinks on the many ways in which we live with precarity, through the lens of the matsutake mushroom. These are photos from an experiment in setting ceramics up for a fall, by balancing them on this wobbly play on the chigai-dana, the multi-level shelving found in Japanese living rooms.
