Community: Friendly Garden
I dug up the patch of earth in front of the studio during the first State of Emergency, and planted a lot of vegetables in a haphazard sort of a way, that mainly related to organizing unearthed stones and other archaeological findings in pleasing triangulations. The results were wild and fun and delicious, and connected me with neighbors, dog-walkers, and trollies full of a kindergartner’s being wheeled to the park next door - at a time when spontaneous conversations were otherwise very thin on the ground.
At the time I also joined a Social Practice Seminar with Pak Sheung Chuen, and we mulled over ways of sharing and connecting in 2020. This led us to grow and distribute the seeds from a single plant across the country - as a form of creating invisible connections between gardeners.
It was fun, we really did make new friends - and we’re hoping maybe there are more out there who will recognize us in the years and months to come, after growing seeds with our faces on the seed packets.
This is a bargain at 75 yen.
